1. Berkeley, California

This wonderful city is rated as the top number 1 healthiest city to live in America, it’s also number one for the Healthiest Places to Live in America, and rates number 3 for the best cities to live in America. This city is compromised of a 43% ownership rate in terms of home ownership. The median home value is almost $800,000 which is more than 4 times higher than the national average of $184,700. One of the best benefits to living in Berkeley for those of you with children or planning a family is the fact there are so many highly rated public schools. Why does Berkeley perform so well? It probably has a lot to do with the fact that the population is very well educated, with 39% of the population having a Master’s degree or higher, which is substantially higher than the national average of 12%. Likewise, the percentage of the population with a Bachelor’s degree is also extremely high coming in at 33% vs the national average of 19%. These factors probably are a strong influence in terms of health, because the higher educated you are, the better the salary you can command, so the more resources you will have for a healthier lifestyle. Torrance also takes the 12th spot for Best Cities for Outdoor Activities and the 13th spot for Best Cities to Retire in America. 17% of the population in Torrance, California are children which shows that it’s a wonderful place to raise a family.
